SilverStone Strider 1500w

9.9 Overall Score

The SilverStone Strider 1500w has surely shown its true colors during this review. It is a quality high powered unit using good components. Voltage regulation is respectable, and the ripple characteristics are first-rate. If you are in need of a power supply to run your quad-SLi or Quad-fire setup along with an overclocked Intel Core i7, then you are looking in the right place. If you do not actually need 1500w, look elsewhere, because (at the time of publication), the prices on the street for this power supply are just below $400. At that price, you can pick up several very good 750w PSUs. Internal components are very good, but in this price range, the secondary capacitors really should be only Japanese made. Our other complaint is that this unit ships with a 3 year warranty. It may not be needed, but in the upper echelon of power supplies, the standard has become 5 years. SilverStone would do well to change this.

Overall, a strong offering from SilverStone. If you need a 1500w PSU and can spare the $400 it costs, go for it. If you’re running a single GPU, this is overkill- buy something a bit less powerful.

Thanks to our friends at SilverStone for providing this test unit.
