Asus Maximus Formula

Overall Score

One of the first boards released based on Intel’s X38 chipset is the Asus Maximus Formula with DDR2 RAM support. How good is it? I take a look and compare its performance with the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P motherboard. The X38 chipset features two x16 PCI express (PCIe) version 2.0 slots both operating at the full x16 bandwidth. This is the first Intel-compatible chipset other than nVidia’s SLI sets to support two full bandwidth x16 PCIe slots, and the first chipset on the market with PCIe 2.0 support.

The Maximus boasts an impressive feature list including the following:

  • FSB 1600/1333/1066 MHz Support
  • North Bridge Intel X38
  • South Bridge Intel ICH9R
