New products revealed by Patriot Memory at CES 2010

Overall Score

Patriot Memory opened CES 2010 by celebrating 25 years in business.  Starting out as a third party manufacturer, Patriot Memory has grown and diversified over the years.  In addition to their core product, memory modules, Patriot Memory has expanded into the fast growing SSD market, small NAS solutions, and tiny HD media solutions(Box Office).

The Box Office offers full HD, an internal 2.5″ drive and network access via a 10/100 controller.  This unit retails for ~$130 with rebates available bringing it down to $100.

Patriot will be launching a 4GB dual channel DDR3 2250 CAS 9 1.65v kit very soon.  This kit is limited to approximately 1000 units and will be priced accordingly.  Speeds of up to 2500MHz have been reached inside Patriot’s labs.  We witnessed a kit running at ~2400 MHz CAS9 and were very impressed.

On the SSD side, Patriot Memory will be releasing the Inferno.  It utilizes a Samforce controller and has an eye catching red casing.  Read and write speeds, especially the 4k tests, looked impressive.

To further expand their SSD product suite, Patriot is also releasing the Torqx.  This unit is targeted at the mid-range user and competes very well compared to other drives in it’s price/performance range.

On display in their suite was a USB 3.0 external enclosure for SSD’s.  Inside the display product was 128GB Torqx SSD and read and write speeds were 134MB and 86MB respectively.

The Patriot Valkyrie NAS is a dual bay solution that was launched today.  It features web access to all your digital media files with access over the internet and anywhere in the world.  Media streaming is accessible via built-in UPnp and DLNA  support.  The Valkyrie also offers a built-in BitTorrent client for access to even more files.

Along with the NAS and external USB 3.0 devices, Patriot has some multi drive bay SSD devices in the works.  One solution is an external box with 5 bays and support for RAID.  The second solution fits inside an available 5.25″ drive bay with 4 hot-swappable SSD drive bays.

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Patriot Memory is putting a new logo on most of their products being released.  Here’s an example of placement and design of the new logo.

Last, but certainly not least, was a USB 2.0/eSATA combo flash drive.  The connector will work in either a USB 2.0 slot(even USB 3.0 due to backwards compatibility) or an eSATA connector.  This device is being used as an interim to USB 3.0 which will be availble on select motherboards that offer the support.  Read/write speeds using eSATA on this flash drive were 90MB/60/MB, and USB 2.0 read/write speeds were 35MB/30MB.

Look for reviews of some great Patriot Memory products coming soon from Xtreme CPU!
