So lets go through the steps to create a grid with the new Backbone Fabric Controller.
We want to click on Grids, then We can click that + button. It will bring up a window within the BFC window. We name the Grid here, along with a description of the grid, account, and licenses keys. If you have VMware enabled grid, you need to supply a License key for that.
Select which version you want. We only have one version as this is still in beta there is only a single version. When Beta 2 releases we can more than likely see that version in there instead of just this one.
This is were it gets interesting. Minimum servers, Target servers, and Maximum servers. Remember Applogic likes the stay N+1. So you can set your minimum servers you want running in this grid at all times, the target number you want running, and the total MAXIMUM you want running. This case we chose minimum of 2 servers, target of 2 servers, maximum of 3 servers. If I use all the resources on 2 of the servers, it should bring up a 3rd server given there is a free server available.
We select an IP range we want and the controller IP we want. I like how you can set an allotment of IP’s and you can pick and choose what you want.
Grid ID you want to bring this GRID up on, along with User, and passwords. Grid Controller is very different, I have a feeling that is for the new LDAP support that Applogic 3.0 is suppose to bring to the table.
This window is for additional Grid Parameters.
I click finish, and it brings me back to this window. I can see that 2 servers have been allotted to XCPU, but also that 1 Grid is in the regulating state. Regulating i believe means that its in the process of being brought up. I can also see that I have 1 server left.
View from the main dashboard. I can see some pretty cool stats here as far as how many servers I have, what grids are running, how many servers are running in each grid. Of course the server utilization.

Thanks for the detailed step by step review. Did you notice that your article is missing parts of phrases in places, such as on the last page, second-to-last paragraph? The missing parts always seem to be at places where you’re delivering a punchline!
Hey Eric!
This is a beta. I only wrote this to really explain how the BFC functioned, and what we can be looking forward to. Being a beta product I wouldn’t feel really good telling someone that this is a great product. I can only tell them what we see so far. So far is looks as its going to be a great product, but there are things here and there that I think need to get addressed before it becomes a great product. Ideas are good. But being a beta… it’s…. beta..
Thanks,
I’m just wondering what the new features are for V3? Apparently it’s supposed to have a lot more new things, but I haven’t see a list.
So what was ther any improvements on adding new server do you have to recreate a grid each time you want to add new servers
