Important Note: We just changed our update schedule to every hour due to Stanford doing the same. The update timer will be wrong for a while (it's still running on the 3-hour schedule).

Single Core Client

You should install this client if you:

  • Have a single core CPU.
  • Have a multi-core CPU, but are unable to run the computer long enough to meet the deadlines for the SMP work units.

NOTE: If you are running Windows 2000 or older, this is the only client available for your operating system, so you should install this client.

If you meet these requirements, you are ready to install the Single Core Client! Just follow these steps to install the Single Core Client.

1.  Download and run the Single Core Client installer, which can be found here: Single Core Client

Complete the installation.

2.  Navigate to Start--> All Programs --> Folding@home-x86.  If you want to, feel free to create a shortcut to Folding@home.exe, placing it wherever you find convenient.  Then, run the file named Folding@home.

This should bring up the Folding@Home Control Panel window.  In this window, you can set your username, and team number.  Username should be your unique name.  Names that are already in use can be found here: XCPUs F@H Stats Page.  Assuming you want to fold for Team XCPUs, your team number should be set to 75255.

3.  Click on the Connection tab of the Folding@Home Control Panel, and check the box next to "Allow receipt of work assignments..."  This will allow the client to receive the largest, and thus, the highest point valued, work units.

4.  Click on the Advanced tab of the Folding@Home Control Panel.  At the bottom of this page is an option that is very important called "Machine ID."  This must be set as a unique number from the rest of the Folding@Home clients installed on your PC.  Generally, the CPU client(s) use the lowest numbers.  I chose 1 for the Machine ID.

Press OK, and you are done!

NOTE: If you would like the client to run on windows startup, simply make a shortcut to Folding@home.exe, and put it in the startup folder.

Welcome to the Fold!
